Coastal Georgia Wins DIII Leadoff Classic

Coastal Georgia (15-1) was crowned champions of the 2022 NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic on Sunday. The Mariners went undefeated 5-0 at the event in Columbus, GA. CCGA were one of three teams to finish 5-0 and earned the title after having the highest run differential. Mobile and Freed-Hardeman also ended the tournament undefeated.

Cal Baptist Scores First DI Top 25 Victory

California Baptist has scored their first big win in the Mike Smith Era 2.0. The Lancers knocked off No. 24 (DI) ranked BYU 6-3 at the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City. The victory is the first against a ranked team since CBU joined the ranks of Division I in 2019.

McSpadden, Softball’s All-Time Winningest Coach, Records 1,800th Win

College Softball’s All-Time Winningest Coach shows no signs of slowing down. Oklahoma City University Coach Phil McSpadden recently recorded his 1,800th career win. The current No. 1 NAIA ranked Stars defeated No. 6 Columbia (Mo.) 5-1 for the milestone win. McSpadden is in his 35th season coaching OCU and has also amassed 10 National Championships.

Lindenwood Making Move to DI

Lindenwood University has announced its intentions to move from Division II to Division I. The school located in Saint Charles, Missouri, will join the Ohio Valley Conference starting July 1. The Lions are currently a DII member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lindenwood Softball went 23-15-1 in 2021, and are off to a 5-1 start this season.

UT Tyler Showing Dominance Early As No. 1

Much like Division I, Division II seems to have their dominate team sitting atop their Top 25 also. University of Texas Tyler (14-0) has been ripping through opponents on their way to yet another unanimous No. 1 spot in this weeks NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. UT Tyler has outscored their opponents 148-28 through 14 games.

Tech’s Neleman Has Career Day

Georgia Tech hurler Blake Neleman had a career day on Sunday as the Yellow Jackets downed host Mississippi State 4-1 on the final day of the Bulldog Kickoff Classic. The Junior struck out 12 Bulldogs while allowing one run on just three hits. The Ramblin’ Wreck are off to an 8-2 start this season.

Tarleton State Off To Hot Start

One of the best stories so far from this young 2022 season could be from one of the newest members of Division I, Tarleton State. The upstart Texans are off to a 10-0 start in just their second year of DI after transitioning from Division II. Tarleton swept through tournaments at Furman opening weekend and one they hosted at home in Stephenville this weekend to start the season. Along the way the member of the WAC knocked off Power 5 competitor and ACC member Syracuse.
