Team USA avenged last summer’s Tokyo Olympic Games Final loss Wednesday night defeating Japan 3-2. With the victory the U.S. Women’s National Team took home the WBSC World Championship Gold at the World Games in Birmingham, Alabama. Janae Jefferson scored all three runs for Team USA in the bottom of the 2nd with a bases clearing line drive that reached the left-centerfield wall. USA was undefeated in the event outscoring their opponents 31-4.
Catawba Names Tigert Head Coach
Brady Tigert has been named the new head coach at Catawba College. Tigert joins the Lady Indians after spending one season as head coach at DIII Wesleyan College. In one season he turned the downtrodden Wolves program around winning the most games in program history (24) while appearing in the USA South Tournament Championship Series. Tigert’s most success came at the DII level he now returns to as head coach at Midwestern State. In 13 seasons leading the Mustangs he won 486 games while being named Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year six times.
Way Named New Head Coach At Delta State
Delta State has named Whitney Way to lead their program. The first-time collegiate head coach joins the Lady Statesmen after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Arkansas Tech. Last season she helped the Golden Suns to a 40-19 overall record, a Great American Conference Championship, and berth in the NCAA Postseason.
Levin Resigns At Southern Miss
Brian Levin has resigned as head coach at Southern Miss. Levin cited wanting to spend more time closer to family for his departure from Hattiesburg. He spent three seasons coaching the Golden Eagles compiling a 65-62 record.
Pena Joins Staff At Middle Tennessee
RTS has learned that Helen Pena will be joining the coaching staff at Middle Tennessee. Pena spent the last five seasons working with the pitching staff at Memphis. Before coming to the Bluff City she was an assistant at NAIA Menlo College in California.
UTA Goes With Dill As Head Coach
University of Texas Arlington has named Kara Dill their new head coach. Dill comes to UTA after serving as an assistant coach at Texas A&M since 2017. She has also had stops on the professional level and on staffs at LSU and Kentucky.
Veach Joins Staff At Texas A&M
Texas A&M has hired Hunter Veach as the program’s director of player development. Veach joins the Aggies after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at UAB. Prior to his stint with the Blazers, Veach worked on the professional softball level with the Cleveland Comets. He also served as the head coach for the Chinese women’s national team until 2021. Veach got his start in coaching at Auburn University Montgomery, where he assisted in winning two NAIA National Championships during his tenure with the program.
Payne Promoted To Head Coach At King
Kyleigh Payne has been named the new head coach at King University. Payne earned the promotion with the Tornados after serving last season as an assistant coach. The 2022 KU squad finished 42-17 winning the Conference Carolinas Championship and making the NCAA Postseason. Payne takes the reigns at King after the departure of former coach Jake Cockerham who accepted the head coaching position at Emory & Henry College.
Roark Out At Ohio
RTS has learned that Kenzie Roark has resigned as head coach at Ohio. Roark spent four seasons leading the Bobcats. She compiled an 89-87 overall record while going 46-39 in MAC play.
Bruister To Lead SFA
Richie Bruister has been named the new head coach at Stephen F. Austin. Bruister joins the Ladyjacks after spending the past seven seasons leading the program at Texas A&M-Commerce where he compiled a 231-116 record. He also had stops at Texas Woman’s University and Henderson State. In 17 seasons as a head coach he has amassed a record of 577-313.
