Montana Softball Gets Unprecedented Gift

Montana recently received a major program gift of $110,000. The gift to assist current program needs came from William Potter a Griz Softball supporter. Potter had already gifted $100,000 that will one day establish the William Potter Memorial Scholarship to support future players.

NFCA Cancels Convention in Dallas

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced the cancellation of their annual National Convention that was scheduled for December 9-12 in Dallas, Texas due to safety and health concerns brought by the ongoing pandemic. The event that’s brings together coaches from all levels nationally and internationally will now be held “virtually” with details TBD.

Rojas Back on the Mount

‪Former Coach Ruby Rojas is returning to lead the Mt. San Antonio College program. Rojas stepped away for the 2020 season to join the coaching staff at Auburn. She led Mt. SAC for seven seasons and two back to back CCCAA Championships in her first run with the program while compiling a 276-53 record.

Tarango Returns to State of Tennessee

Chattanooga has seemingly found their new pitching coach in Cheyanne Tarango. Guiding the Mocs pitching staff will be her first foray into collegiate coaching after working as a graduate manager on staff at Louisville from 2016-2018. Tarango played collegiality at Tennessee.

Syracuse Names Ruechel Assistant

Syracuse has named Evan Ruechel assistant coach. Ruechel comes to the Orange after serving the shortened 2020 season on staff at Buffalo. In 2019 he was an assistant at UNC Wilmington after making the crossover from college baseball.

Clark’s Name in Miami Discussion

Talk within the coaching circles the last few days has indicated Ohio State assistant coach Jordan Clark could be a serious candidate for the open head coaching position at Miami (OH). Clark has some good talk connected with her name and is considered an “up-and-comer” in the profession. The MU Alum joined the Buckeyes last year after three seasons on staff at Arkansas.

DII Quiet Period Ending

The NCAA Division II Administrative Committee has decided the Quiet Period will end August 31. Division II will resume their normal recruiting calendars and activities September 1. The committee stated that resuming normal recruiting activities could assist Division II with enrollment management.

Lohmann on Spartan Radar

San Jose State seems to be making some initial moves forward with their head coaching search. Sources say an interesting name the Spartans have on their radar is former Cal Interim Head Coach Tammy Lohmann. Lohmann spent 13 seasons on the Golden Bear staff, and what would be her final season in 2020 leading the program as interim.

Brown Takes Over at Longwood

Longwood has appointed Megan Brown to lead their program. Brown has made coaching stops in the ACC, PAC-12, and SEC among others. She most recently served on the staff at Cal as pitching coach
