Odessa College has named Doug Eastman their new head coach. Eastman last led the program at Texas A&M-Kingsville from 2022-23. The veteran coach has had huge success on the JUCO level leading programs at both Yavapai College and College of the Siskiyous where he coached more than 30 All-Americans and four National Players of the Year.

Argentina Great Mata Promoted To Assistant Coach At Va Tech
Virginia Tech has named Huemul Mata to their coaching staff. Mata joined the Hokies Staff during the 2023 season and now has been elevated to assistant coach. One of the top men’s pitchers in the sport, the Argentina Native led the national team to Gold Medals in both the World Cup Championship and Pan-American Games.
William Jessup Moving To DII
William Jessup University in California is making the move to NCAA Division II starting with the 2024-25 season. WJU currently competes in the Golden State Athletic Conference of the NAIA. They will join the PacWest Conference on their move to DII. The Warriors Softball squad finished with a 24-23 record in 2023.
Longtime Coach Pickett Resigns At Northwestern State
Northwestern State’s all-time coaching wins leader Donald Pickett has resigned. Pickett spent 15 years leading the Demons amassing 390 victories. NSU made two NCAA Postseason appearances in his regime winning back-to-back Southland Conference Tournament titles in 2013 and 2014, and a regular-season title in 2015.
Billings Departs Hardin-Simmons For South Dakota State
Chanin Billings has been named to the coaching staff at South Dakota State. Billings spent the past six years as head coach at DIII Hardin-Simmons in Texas. She will work primarily with the Jackrabbits Defensive Unit.
Beitia Promoted At USF
Jim Beitia has been named assistant coach at South Florida. Beitia joined the Bulls Staff last August as Director of Operations. He now adds on-field coaching to his duties. The veteran strategist had head coaching stops at Oklahoma and Tennessee, while also working on staffs at Sacramento State, Arizona State, and Auburn.
Guthrie Named First Head Coach At NACC
Joe Guthrie has been hired as fhe first head coach at Northeast Alabama Community College. Guthrie, a journeyman coach, spent last season on the coaching staff at Texas A&M. He also has ties in Alabama having directed programs at University of Alabama Birmingham and Marion Military Institute. NACC will begin competition in the 2025 season.
Olivarez To Bakersfield
Letty Olivarez has been named the new head coach at Cal State Bakersfield. Olivarez joins the Roadrunners after serving the last several seasons on the coaching staff at San Jose State. She replaces Daniel Sperl who led CSUB for one season while going 7-43. This is the second time for Olivarez in the Captains Chair having served as co-interim head coach at Arizona State in the 2016 season.
Schurr Departs Ball State For Pittsburgh
RTS has learned Lacy Schurr is departing as head coach at Ball State to join the coaching staff at Pittsburgh. Schurr spent three seasons coaching the Cardinals and compiled an 86-75 overall record while going 63-34 in MAC play. She worked on new Panther Head Coach Jenny Allard’s staff at Harvard from 2016-2020.
Murphy Extended At Alabama
Alabama has signed longtime Head Coach Pat Murphy to a contract extension. The new deal runs through the 2028 season and pays the Hall of Fame Coach $530,000 annually. The 2023 Crimson Tide squad finished 45-22 while making an appearance at the Women’s College World Series.
