Syracuse has named Evan Ruechel assistant coach. Ruechel comes to the Orange after serving the shortened 2020 season on staff at Buffalo. In 2019 he was an assistant at UNC Wilmington after making the crossover from college baseball.

Clark’s Name in Miami Discussion
Talk within the coaching circles the last few days has indicated Ohio State assistant coach Jordan Clark could be a serious candidate for the open head coaching position at Miami (OH). Clark has some good talk connected with her name and is considered an “up-and-comer” in the profession. The MU Alum joined the Buckeyes last year after three seasons on staff at Arkansas.
DII Quiet Period Ending
The NCAA Division II Administrative Committee has decided the Quiet Period will end August 31. Division II will resume their normal recruiting calendars and activities September 1. The committee stated that resuming normal recruiting activities could assist Division II with enrollment management.
Lohmann on Spartan Radar
San Jose State seems to be making some initial moves forward with their head coaching search. Sources say an interesting name the Spartans have on their radar is former Cal Interim Head Coach Tammy Lohmann. Lohmann spent 13 seasons on the Golden Bear staff, and what would be her final season in 2020 leading the program as interim.
Brown Takes Over at Longwood
Longwood has appointed Megan Brown to lead their program. Brown has made coaching stops in the ACC, PAC-12, and SEC among others. She most recently served on the staff at Cal as pitching coach
Purdue Nortwest Tabs Wilcox to Lead Program
Purdue Northwest has named Tristan Wilcox head coach. Wilcox takes the reigns of the Pride after serving as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Dayton for the last four seasons.
Asham Named Interim Coach at D’Youville
D’Youville has named Megan Asham interim head coach. The 24 year old Asham served as the programs graduate assistant last season. The Spartans are currently in their first year of Division II provisional membership after competing at the Division III level.
Recruiting Dead Period Extended
The NCAA Division I Council Coordination Committee has once again extended the recruiting Dead Period through September 30. This latest move keeps DI Softball Coaches on-campus and allows no visits or camps up to the dates of the regular fall recruiting period that begins in October and runs until the weekend before Thanksgiving. The extended Dead Period was set to expire August 31.
NFCA Agenda Falls Flat
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) have informed their membership that the possible legislation to move the Contact Date from September 1 to July 1 will not be moving forward. A controversial and tense topic within the coaching community in the last month, the standard on legislative items of 65% supermajority of Division I Coaches was not met to move the proposal forward to the NCAA. 273 coaches from 294 programs participated in the vote with 164 coaches (60.07%) voting in favor of a change, while 109 coaches (39.93%) voted to keep the current date as is.
Ambrosi Target of Bucknell
RTS has learned that Embry-Riddle (AZ) Head Coach Christie Ambrosi has been targeted as a top candidate by Bucknell to lead their program. She has a second interview with the Bison this week. Ambrosi, a two time All-American at UCLA, has been at ERAU for the past two seasons where she has compiled a 29-33 record.
