Softball Australia has announced the passing of former coach Barry Blanchard at the age of 86 years old. Blanchard was a beloved coach and personality within the National Program in Australia. His first national appointment came in 1995 with the Men’s National team, before being named as assistant coach for the Women’s National Team in 1997. He held that position through the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. He also had a stint as Head Coach of the Italian National Team at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He later returned to the Australian program as video analyst and selector for the Open Men’s program during the 2009 and 2013 World Championships.
